By the People: The Election of Barack Obama is a documentary film that shows the presidential campaign from behind the scenes, by filmmakers Amy Rice and Alicia Sams.

The documentary By the People: The Election of Barack Obama, about the presidential campaign of Barack Obama, debuts on HBO on November 3, 2009. Nearly a year after the historic election of the first black president of the United States, the story of his campaign will be broadcast on HBO.

By the People is by filmmakers Amy Rice and Alicia Sams, who followed Barack Obama on the campaign trail for about 19 months. Barack Obama was a junior senator from Illinois with the filmmakers asked if they could document his campaign. By the People tells the behind the scenes story of the Obama campaign, the passionate campaigners and the meteoric rise to the U.S. White House.

The documentary, By the People: The Election of Barack Obama tells the story of the Obama campaign and the junior senator's historic odyssey to the U.S. White House. The documentary filmmakers recorded the drama of the presidential campaign and shows never – before – seen footage of Barack Obama behind the scenes on the campaign trail. The film includes interviews with Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama and their daughters Malia and Sasha. There are also interviews and candid moments with the campaign staff and volunteers.

By the People: The Election of Barack Obama is a film that covers the presidential campaign and culminates with his election on November 8, 2008. The filmmakers captured the Obama team as they were glued to the TV screens at their Chicago campaign headquarters. As cheers filled the office, Obama put finishing touches on his acceptance speech. Upon news of the Obama victory there were cheers and tears of joy, captured on film.

The filmmakers had no way of knowing that the Obama campaign would propel him to the pinnacle position of President of the United States. By the People has turned out to be a documentary film that is destined to generate worldwide interest because of the success of the campaign.

According to a press statement from HBO, Amy Rice conceived the idea for the documentary long before Obama announced that he was running for president. Rice approached documentary producer Alicia Sams who joined the project to co – direct. The filmmakers approached the Obama team, who agreed to the project and allowed what turned out to be unprecedented, exclusive access to the campaign.

By the People: The Election of Barack Obama debuts on Tuesday, November 3 at 9:00 PM ET/PT on HBO. The documentary will be broadcast several times on HBO.
