Lisa Ling appeared on The View on ABC to promote an upcoming special on CNN: Planet in Peril – Battle Lines, which will air on December 11, 2008. The worldwide investigation explores the waste of the planet’s resources.

Ling, a former host of The View, illustrated the show's concept by speaking the hunting of sharks as an example of topics they will cover. She said that sharks are caught just for the shark fin soup, which is a delicacy. Sharks that are caught get their fins cut off and they are thrown back into the ocean. This is not only cruel, it is wasteful.

Planet in Peril Environment Coverage will be hosted by Anderson Cooper, chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta and The Oprah Winfrey Show correspondent and National Geographic host Lisa Ling. The award winning series by CNN examines the environmental conflicts between growing populations and natural resources.
